Dr. Una Lynch will give a presentation entitled:
"Quality and Fairness: The Cuban's show us how"

Health outcomes such as infant mortality and life expectancy are closely correlated with a country's wealth and GDP. Countries with higher GDP generally have better health outcomes. Cuba is the classic outlier in this regard, despite having a third-world country, life expectancy and infant mortality in Cuba is comparable with Ireland and other high income countries. The reasons behind Cuba's conspicuous success in health were the subject of doctoral research entitled Public Health: why are the Cubans so successful? carried out by public health nurse Una Lynch.

Dr. Una Lynch from the School of Law at Queen's University Belfast has worked in public health practice, education and policy in Ireland (North and South), Bolivia and WHO, Copenhagen and has a keen interest in reciprocal learning with partners in the developing world.

Members of MRSA and Family Network attended a Memorial at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 19th July and laid a wreath in memory of the innocent victims that have suffered from and been lost to Healthcare Associated Infections in Ireland.

The simple and moving ceremony consisted of a specially composed prayer, followed by the laying of the wreaths at the innocent victim’s memorial. The event was organised by MRSA Action U.K. and was attended by members from all over the UK , Claire Raynor, OBE, and Professor Hugh Pennington who is the President of the UK organisation.

A fitting lament was played on the bagpipes by a Donegal piper and the occasion emphasised the fact that the problem of Hospital Acquired Infections, and the desire to do something about it, are not confined by national borders.
